The Gore Transalpine Race
On the 30th of August Matt Williamson, manager of our Bothwell Street store set out on the 4th Gore-Tex Transalpine run. The race was an epic 8 days in which time Matt and his team partner covered 300km, 14,000m of ascent and passed through Germany, Austria and Italy. Although Matt is an experienced runner, he had never undertaken a race quite like this before. On a typical day, they covered the the equivalent of a marathon with a couple of munros thrown in for good measure! Last year, as well as lung bursting ascents and miles upon miles of gruelling alpine trails teams also had to endure temperatures ranging of -10oC on some of the high mountain passes.

One of only a handful of teams from the UK Matt and Dougal were the only Scottish team competing in this year’s event and came in a fantastic 13th place overall!
Now they are back; you can hear all about Matt’s experiences in one of 3 talks he will be presenting in conjunction with Gore Running Wear at Run 4 It stores throughout Scotland:
